HUNTINGTON - Here is the bowl lineup from the Kindred Communications family of stations, starting with today's three bowls on (WCMI-AM) ESPN 1340 AM (with a slight interuption of the Ohio Bobcats game in the Idaho Bowl by Chesapeake Panthers' basketball at Holzer Classic, vs. Logan Elm, in the Convo at Ohio University, 6-8 p.m.).

Other games will also air on SuperTalk 94.1 FM and AM 930 (WRVC-AM/FM) including the Herd's bowl game on Tuesday, Dec. 20, against FIU in the 2011 Beef 'O'Brady's Bowl St. Petersburg (Fla.).

That game will also be heard on The Dawg, 93.7 FM (WDGG-FM), the Herd's 100,000-watt flagship station, carrying the Thundering Herd IMG Network broadcast.

Join our bowl party at "Rooster's Sports Bar" at Pullman Square on Tuesday, with Jeff "The Crawdawg" Crawford from 3-5 p.m. on The Dawg and Woody Woodrum and Paul Swann on "Insider Sportsline" from 4-5 p.m. on SuperTalk 94.1 FM and AM 930, then on the Dawg and SuperTalk at 5 p.m. with "First Sentry Bank's College Football Today" also live at Rooster's.

There will be prizes and games, so join the flagship stations of the Thundering Herd IMG Sports Network on Tuesday at Rooster's, starting at 3 p.m.

Robert Goff Signs With Men’s Basketball

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. – Marshall University head men’s basketball coach Tom Herrion has added his second recruit of the spring and fifth since last fall today.

Robert Goff has signed an Athletic Scholarship Agreement with the Thundering Herd for next season.

Goff, a 6-9 forward, brings two seasons of junior college experience, most recently playing for head coach Steve Eck at Hutchinson (Ks.) Community College.

He previously committed to the University of Oklahoma, but was given his release following a coaching change.

The Indianapolis, Ind. native averaged 9.1 points per game and 6.2 rebounds while helping Hutchinson to an 18-4 mark and a perfect 11-0 non-conference record.

"We are really excited that Robert has decided to be a part of our basketball program,” Herrion commented.

Marshall Men’s Basketball Signs St. Patrick's Guard Chris Martin

HUNTINGTON – Marshall University head men’s basketball coach Tom Herrion has announced the signing of Chris Martin to a National Letter of Intent to begin play for the Thundering Herd next season.

Martin, a senior at St. Patrick High School in Elizabeth, N.J., joins the Herd as a freshman point guard in 2011-12.

“We are really excited that Chris has joined our Marshall Basketball family, he is a terrific player and an outstanding young man,” Herrion said.

“Chris played at a very high level this past year at St Patrick’s against excellent competition and for an outstanding coach in Kevin Boyle, this experience will help him in his transition to college basketball.”

The 6-foot Washington D.C. native, who left for the Celtics and St. John’s H.S. in D.C. for “personal reasons,” helped St. Patrick to a 26-1 mark last season and a No. 3 ranking in the ESPN Rise Fab 50.

The only loss for the Celtics came to St. Anthony, who finished a perfect 33-0 and tops in the nation.

Martin averaged 13.5 points per game, 3.0 rebounds, 3.0 assists and 1.5 steals per contest.

Joining Martin on this season’s team at St. Patrick were Michael Gilchrist, who is attending Kentucky as the top recruit in the nation and Western Kentucky recruit Derrick Gordon, who is ranked 96th.

Chadwick Announces 6-foot-1 Signee For 2011-12 Season

HUNTINGTON - Marshall women’s basketball head coach Royce Chadwick announced the signing of Alyse Poindexter to a National Letter of Intent beginning in the 2011-12 season.

 

Poindexter, a 6-1 forward, will look to make an immediate contribution to the Herd roster, who graduated its fourth all-time leading scorer and rebounder in Tynikki Crook.

 

“We are very excited to sign a player with Alyses’s abilities.  She will be an instant impact player for our team.  She fills a tremendous need for our program in the paint,” Chadwick said.

 

The Henderson, Ky. native, averaged 17.1 points per game and 11.7 rebounds per game at Henderson County High School, helping to earn Region 2 Player of the Year.

 

Following her sophomore season at Wabash Valley College Poindexter was ranked the No. 10 junior college player in the nation, averaging 9.4 points, 5.2 rebounds and 1.2 blocks per game, snagging her a spot on the NJCAA All-American third team.

 

Her 64 percent shooting from the floor was No. 2 in the nation in field goal percentage among junior college players.

HUNTINGTON - Marshall signs best class ever, according to ratings nationally.

Marshall University’s head football coach John “Doc” Holliday announced the Thundering Herd’s 2011 recruiting class on Wednesday afternoon on Feb. 2, the first day for football recruits to officially sign their national letters of intent.

The highly-ranked class features 29 student-athletes, and it includes four individuals who are already enrolled at Marshall for the spring semester.
