HUNTINGTON, W.Va - Marshall's Hassan Whiteside earned three more honors Mar. 10 when the 7-0 post player was selected by The Sporting News as its Conference USA Freshman of the Year and its Defensive Player of the Year.
The Sporting News also chose Whiteside second team All-Conference. The complete set of Sporting News honors as well as all of the honors Whiteside has earned are below.
Whiteside has also been named to both the FoxSports.com and CBSSports.com Freshman All-American teams.
Marshall finished 23-8 this season, third-best winning total in MU history, and head coach Donnie Jones led the Herd to an 11-5 mark in C-USA play and a tie for third place with UAB.
Marshall received a bye for the GMC Sierra Conference USA Tournament in Tulsa, Okla. and will play Thursday, March 11, at 7:30 p.m. eastern against the winner of Wednesday's 7 p.m. tip between No. 12 Rice and No. 5 Tulsa.
