HUNTINGTON - Marshall strong safety Dominick LeGrande, a transfer from Boston College who led the Thundering Herd in tackles in the 2012 football season, was named Thursday to the Conference USA All-Academic Team.

Fourteen players from 11 of the 12 C-USA teams were honored. Players selected must have earned a grade point average of at least 3.2 and be a starter or key reserves for their teams.

LeGrande, a graduate student at MU after getting his bachelor’s degree from Boston College, has a 3.5 GPA in Adult & Technical Education, and was one of eight seniors for the Thundering Herd in 2012.

He is one of three graduate students on the C-USA squad, joined by four seniors, four juniors and three sophomores.

The C-USA All-Academic squad includes three defensive ends, three linebackers, two strong safeties, two quarterbacks and one each who are a wide receiver, an offensive lineman, a place kicker and a long snapper.

LeGrande, a 6-foot-2, 213-pounder from Staten Island, N.Y., had 132 tackles in the Herd’s 5-7 season, second in Conference USA in tackles and ranking sixth nationally (and first among players who were not linebackers).

LeGrande’s two interceptions also tied Herd cornerback Monterius Lovett for the team lead.
