After winning the 100 meter hurdles, high jump and 200 meters on Thursday — setting a MU record in the 200 in the process — Jules won the long jump (6.10m/20-00.25), placed sixth in the javelin (36.31m/119-01) and fifth in the 800 meters (2:22.06) on Friday.

The record becomes the 10th different school record broken by Marshall this season.

The old C-USA meet record of 5,571 points was set six years ago to the day on May 10, 2007 by Gaelle Niare of SMU.

The Thundering Word: Herd likes Hilltoppers’ move to C-USA

Written by JACK BOGACZYK, HI Editor on . Posted in Conference USA

HUNTINGTON - Conference USA just keeps getting friendlier for Marshall Athletics and Thundering Herd fans.

It was one of the worst-kept secrets in college athletics ... but at least it's finally official.

Western Kentucky is joining C-USA, for the 2014-15 school year, replacing Tulsa, which is bolting its league home of eight years for what used to be the Big East.

An official announcement on that move was made Tuesday.

The Golden Hurricane has won 49 championships in C-USA - more than twice the number of any other school — but this "swap," so to speak, continues to bring Marshall's conference home closer to home.

The Hilltoppers have a mushrooming program in football … Witness the big-time offseason hire of former Louisville and Arkansas Coach Bobby Petrino.

Western Kentucky to join Conference USA in 2014

Written by WOODY WOODRUM, HI Publisher on . Posted in Conference USA

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. — Western Kentucky University announced a membership agreement with Conference USA for its athletic programs beginning on July 1, 2014 in a press conference today in the Jack and Jackie Harbaugh Stadium Club at Houchens Industries-L.T. Smith Stadium.

Conference USA is an established, nationally prominent athletic conference that sponsors intercollegiate competition in 20 sports. Conference USA will have 16 member institutions in 2013-14, including 15 that compete in the Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS), beginning in 2014 and 16 in FBS in 2015.

With the Hilltoppers joining Conference USA, the Thundering Herd of Marshall will gain the closest rival for C-USA since the Herd left the Mid-American Conference for C-USA in 2005, as Bowling Green, Ky. and Huntington, W.Va. are only four hours and 15 minutes apart.

Marshall has gained a number of regional rivals in the makeover of C-USA, with Charlotte (4 hours, 57 minutes in North Carolina), Middle Tennessee (5 hours, 37 minutes in Murfreesboro, Tenn.) and Old Dominion (6 hours, 55 minutes to Norfolk, Va.) added to UAB (7 hours, 47 minutes to Birmingham, Ala.) as trips under eight hours for fans driving to games.
